What is sea moss?

Sea Moss or Irish Moss is a name given to a variety of seaweed or algae like Gracilaria or Chrondus Crispus. Wild harvested Sea Moss are sun-dried and can vary in color from red, pink, purple, green, brown or gold. Gracilaria grow out like vines while Chrindrus Crispus branches out flat with a wave pattern. There are multiple species of sea moss.

 

What is sea moss nutrients?

It is a sea vegetable containing natural sources of minerals like iodine, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, copper, phosphorus, and antioxidants.

They’re naturally low in calories, fat, and sugar, and they contain a small amount of plant protein.

​

A 4-tablespoon (20-gram) serving of raw Irish sea moss provides the following:

  • Calories: 10

  • Protein: 0.5 grams

  • Total fat: 0 grams

  • Total carbs: 3 grams

  • Fiber: 0.5 grams

  • Total sugar: 0 grams

  • Calcium: 1% of the Daily Value (DV)

  • Iron: 10% of the DV

  • Magnesium: 7% of the DV

  • Phosphorus: 2% of the DV

  • Zinc: 4% of the DV

  • Copper: 3% of the DV

Like other sea vegetables, sea moss is also a naturally good source of iodine, a micronutrient necessary for thyroid health.

Additionally, red seaweeds like sea moss are full of antioxidants, which are compounds that help protect your cells from disease-causing oxidative damage.

 

Handle and Care at Green Rozes: 

  1. Upon arrival all bags are stored in a cool environment.

  2. We wash it until all the debri is gone and the water is clear.

  3. It is then placed in a glass bowl to soak in spring alkaline water and lime.

  4. The water is replaced and will soak for another 2 days adding organic fresh organic lime for smell.

  5. The moss is rinsed again and checked for debris and smell.

  6. Blended with fresh alkaline spring water and or chosen flavor.

  7. Packaged in 16 oz. sanitized glass jar. 

  8. Hair net, gloves and medical mask are worn throughout the entire process.

How do you use sea moss, how much to consume and how long will it stay fresh?

Uses: natural thickener, teas, soups, smoothies, jello, jams, spreads, sauces, skin care and hair care.

Directions: Keep refrigerated or in the freezer. Will last 2-3 weeks refrigerated or 4-5 weeks frozen.

Take 1-2 tbsp daily for 3 weeks at a time and take a 1-2 week break in between usage due to possible risk of high iodine intake.

FDA approved?

The nutrients in sea moss can vary by the environment in which it was grown. It may contain high levels of iodine or heavy metals. However, current research has not found that sea moss contains toxic levels. Scientists need to do further research on this.
